Convergent Design

Our company was founded in 2000 by Mike Schell, an electrical engineer who previously worked in the field of electronic circuit design, specifically in the development of RAM memory chips. The company's original product line consisted of SD/HD signal converters and has evolved through many generations of products to the line of industry benchmark recorder/monitors that we produce for the film and television industries today.

nanoFlash for Gates EX1 housing

Includes special mounting hardware from Gates for use with the EX1 underater housing

"The Sony EX1/EX1R cameras with a Gates housing, SWP44C port and nanoFlash recorder meet the BBC HD requirements for full HD level acquisition.

No other housing manufacturer can claim such a prestigious position for broadcast quality video form the EX1/EX1R (or EX3) cameras. The need for a Gates housing and SWP44C port are key in meeting the BBC requirements.

History suggests the BBC acceptance of a full HD level system means others will follow for their Gold Standard HD acquisition: National Geographic, Discovery, PBS, Animal Planet, etc."

nanoFlash by Convergent Design

Convergent Design's nanoFlash is the World's Smallest High Quality HD/SD-SDI / HDMI Recorder/Player. It is also the most versatile Recorder/Player in the world in terms of bit-rates, recording options and formats. By adding the nanoFlash, one can meet the 50 Mbps acquisition requirements, for many networks.

The nanoFlash produces extremely Low-Noise Images - Master Quality Modes are Visually Indistinguishable from Uncompressed

Improves the image quality of most cameras as the HD/SD-SDI and HDMI outputs are before the compression stages. Many cameras only record highly compressed 4:2:0 while outputing 4:2:2 over HD-SDI or HDMI. The nanoFlash uses these high-quality uncompressed 4:2:2 images to produce higher quality recordings.

This is an image one can trust for designing lighting and setting exposure.

Additional monitoring tools/exposure aids include a programmable false color mode, zebras a waveform monitor (luma or RGB parade) and a histogram (luma or RGB parade). There are also LUTs built in for proper viewing of the LOG modes available from numerous popular cameras. For precision focusing there is a pixel zoom with two levels of magnification and a programmable focus assist with three styles of enhancement and a large range of adjustability.

As a recorder the Odyssey7 records Apple ProRes 422(HQ) in HD onto a removable 2.5" Odyssey SSD. SSDs are available in 256G and 512G, offering up to nine hours of continuous shooting to a single SSD. Additional recording formats will be added via free firmware updates.
