DJI Ronin 2 3-Axis Handheld/Aerial Stabilizer |
The versatile Ronin 2 gimbal from DJI is suitable for use either handheld or mounted in a variety of ways including onto a drone, Steadicam, vehicle mount, and more. An update from the original Ronin, this motorized stabilization system is suitable for a range of camera and lens configurations, boasting a payload capacity of 30 pounds. This means it can be used for everything from DSLRs up to cinema cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA Mini or Sony FS7.
Like its predecessor, the Ronin 2 features support for underslung, upright, and briefcase operation modes to help you achieve the best angle. However, it has been redesigned to enable easy transition between upright and underslung modes without changing the position of the camera. It also offers several other improvements, such as enhancements to the control software and physical design to simplify taking complex shots without sacrificing performance, all while making important functions more readily accessible.
With up to eight times more powerful motors than previous iterations, Ronin 2 can withstand sustained speeds of over 75 mph with camera builds as heavy as 30 pounds. Thanks to encoded motors and enhanced precision, the Ronin maintains the same 0.02 of accuracy of its predecessors.
A detachable grip allows the Ronin 2 to stand up on its own, and is easily separated when the lower part of the handgrip is not needed. In addition to handheld work, the Ronin 2 supports mounting on cable cams, drones, Steadicams, vehicle mounts, and more.
A dedicated high-brightness touchscreen for settings and adjustments has been integrated into Ronin 2, streamlining and accelerating gimbal setup. Tactile buttons including motor pause are placed easily within reach.
Two batteries on Ronin 2, and the ability to run with only one, allows for batteries to be charged and swapped without interrupting a shoot.
Compatible Cameras The Ronin 2 supports a range of cameras from DSLRs to cinema cameras, even with high-grade lenses and other accessories mounted. DJI Ronin-MX 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer |
You may arrive early with camera and lens to prep, balance and familiarize yourself with equipment.
Built to Perform A redesigned structure moves the Ronin-MX battery from the back to the front. This centers the weight of the camera, minimizing instability when flying directly forwards. It also dramatically increases the Ronin's agility and ability to handle rapid movements or high-G situations.
Magnesium Construction Built extensively of lightweight magnesium, the Ronin-MX weighs just 6.11lb (2.77kg). This lightness allows it to be mounted to the M600 even when equipped with cameras as advanced as the RED EPIC, and to vehicles with a minimum impact on vehicle handling.
Strengthened Motors and ESCs A combination of stronger motors and ESCs makes the Ronin-MX 50% more powerful than the Ronin-M. This additional stiffness and power allows the system to better withstand wind resistance when mounted to moving vehicles and aircraft, as well as more rapid movements.
External Camera Battery Cameras such as the RED EPIC need an external battery for power. A dedicated position designed for an optional battery plate provides an easy, cable free mounting point for a 2nd DJI Intelligent Battery. This provides two 12V P-tap power sources for powering cameras and accessories.
Remote Focus Control The DJI Focus uses DJI's expertise in brushless motors for previously unheard of levels of precision and accuracy. The brushless motor puts just 0.02 of accuracy in the hand so that turning the remote is just like turning the lens itself. It also features high torque and a fast reaction speed so that subjects can be kept in focus no matter how they move. When upgraded with a Focus Expansion Module, the Focus can control aperture or focus across Lightbridge 2's 3.1miles (5km).
Precision Solo Camera Control Simple to set up and use, the DJI Ronin Wireless Thumb Controller makes controlling the Ronin-MX easy and intuitive, enabling the capture of shots that would otherwise be impossible for a single operator.
Solo Mode with Optional Thumb Controller The separately available Ronin Wireless Thumb Controller makes controlling the Ronin-MX easy and intuitive, enabling the capture of shots that would otherwise be impossible for a single operator.
2nd Operator Control A wireless 2.4GHz remote controller is included with the Ronin-MX enabling a 2nd operator to remotely control pan, tilt, roll, and other functions. By using the optional Lightbridge 2 Remote Controller, you have long range control of the Ronin-MX up to 3.1 miles (5km). Fast, Precise Balancing Save time and start shooting professionally stabilized video in under five minutes. Mount your camera to the Ronin-MX, quickly balance it, and then tap a button. The upgraded ATS (Auto Tune Stability) technology is more precise than before and completes the tuning and balancing processes with no tools necessary.
Cinematic Smoothness Even with only one operator, SmoothTrack™ technology ensures the Ronin-MX translates movements into smooth camera angle changes. SmoothTrack™ settings from speed to deadband to acceleration are fully customizable. A 'Single Axis Follow Mode' enables two axis to be locked while SmoothTrack™ guides the camera along only one axis of motion.
Built-In Power Distribution A dedicated power distribution box keeps wiring to a minimum while providing power to essential accessories. Two regulated 12V P-taps, one 500mAh full-size USB connector, and a DJI Lightbridge connector enable connectivity and power to everything a film maker needs.
Flexible Modes of Operation Three modes of operation, found on all Ronin series products, make the Ronin-MX a powerfully flexible camera stabilization system. Underslung Mode is the most common shooting mode, with the Ronin-MX held in front of the user. Upright Mode reverses Underslung Mode and puts the camera higher up making it ideal for raised shots above people or through sunroofs. Briefcase Mode makes it a narrow platform that fits easily through narrow hallways and doors.
Universal Mounting Mount the Ronin-MX to aircraft easily using a specially designed mounting plate. A separate universal Quick Release system that doubles as a vibration dampening system allows the Ronin-MX to be connected to everything from jib to tripod and anything in between. This plate isolates the Ronin-MX from unwanted vibrations coming from the platforms it is mounted to, and makes it usable everywhere.
Short Range Wireless Transmission On the ground, the SRW-60G* allows film makers to see the image from the camera without running cables up the Ronin-MX. In the air, it sends the camera's feed from the camera direct to Lightbridge 2 allowing it to stream this image down to the pilot and cinematographer.
***** IMPORTANT NOTICE: ***** All gimbal devices (Ronin and Movi) require familiarization with the delicate and tricky balancing procedures as well as practice operating them once the complex balance has been achieved. Keep in mind that even the zooming of a lens can alter the balance.
In the beginning, it is recommended that you spend time as much time as possible practicing moves before your shoot. Remember to keep your shots efficient and short or the rig will become "heavy" to you sooner rather than later!
You may practice at Budget Video's facilities and we will give you a free shoot tutorial. Longer classes are sometimes available at a modest cost. Ask your account executive for details.

DJI Ronin 3-Axis Brushless Gimbal Stabilizer |
You may arrive early with camera and lens to prep, balance and familiarize yourself with equipment.
The Ronin 3-Axis Brushless Gimbal Stabilizer from DJI is a camera stabilization system designed to give the operator close to the freedom of unencumbered handheld shooting but without the hand-shake. Suitable for most camera types and configurations up to 16 pounds, Ronin uses brushless motors that work on three axes: one for side-to-side "roll" - keeping the horizon level - one for tilt, and one for pan. The system is computer-controlled and boasts a precision of control of 0.02. An IMU (inertial measurement movement) detects movement and engages the motors to react, using algorithms to differentiate between intentional movement such as pans and tracking shots from unwanted shake. In addition to handheld shooting, the gimbal can be used in vehicle mounting scenarios and other contexts where vibrations or other abrupt movements would make tripods and rigid camera support systems unsuitable.
The Ronin supports dual-operator shooting, much like working with a jib that has a motorized pan/tilt head. In this mode, a second operator would use the included transmitter (radio controller) to manually control camera pan and tilt independently of which way the Ronin moves. The included transmitter/receiver system operates on 2.4 GHz and is proprietary. If you prefer to use a third-party transmitter there is a D-Bus port on the Ronin to install your own receiver.
Product Highlights: - Supports Cameras up to 16 Pounds - Precision of Control: 0.02 - Transmitter for Remote Pan/Tilt Control - Tool-Less Balance Adjustment System - Assistant Software for iOS and Windows - Bluetooth Wireless Interface for Setup - 15mm Rods + Mount Points for Accessories - USB and PowerTap Power Outputs - Gimbal Tuning Stand Included - Included Hard Case Holds Gimbal and More
Specifications: - Weight: 9.3 lb / 4.2 kg - Maximum camera dimensions: depth at center of mass on camera base plate: 5.5" / 140 mm, height measured from top of camera base plate: 8.9" / 225 mm, width: 7.7" / 195 mm - Maximum payload: 16 lb / 7.3 kg
